Yellowtards say they are voting for Florin Hilbay because he is “Matalino at Magaling. Taga-Tondo na nagtapos sa UP.” Sure. He and every other politician out scrounging for votes have their own claim to the Batang Yagit narrative. But the more important question is this…
What is his vision for the Philippines and what is his plan to get there?
The trouble with Filipino politicians is they go for the lowest common denominator when campaigning for votes. And the even bigger trouble is that Filipinos habitually lap it all up.
Being poor once is not a reliable indicator of how good a government official someone will be. If that were the case, then the Philippines would have been a First World country by now. So, sure, support your politician. But you owe it to yourself to have an intelligent reason why he or she deserves your support.
