This is not about blind loyalty to Duterte. This is about common sense. China did not order the attack on the Filipino fishermen. The captain of the Filipino fishing boat Junel Insigne couldn’t even give an accurate account of what happened. Besides, what do you want Duterte to do? Declare war vs China? C’mon!
It seems that the Opposition’s only real agenda is to exploit this incident as a means to smear the government of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte with bad PR. Unfortunately for them a PR disaster means there is fallout. If the Recto Reef incident was a PR disaster, then what is the fallout? Only the people who never trusted Duterte from Day One to do the right thing are disappointed in him. Insigne eventually changed his story and now said he’s not sure.
Bikoy, for example, had a different story when the Yellows were still handling him and then he changed it as soon as they threw him under the bus. It seems that Insigne is acting the same way. He was singing a different tune when he first talked to the media and then changed it. No conviction!
I noticed too that some people get riled up about imagined offences like “what ifs” out of an encounter that didn’t actually result in tragedy. Chinese officials already responded and appealed for calm and they are also investigating. It’s not like they completely ignored the issue.
I think Duterte’s cabinet did a good job in calming the public and managing the aftermath of this incident. Some members of the Opposition and those with misguided Pinoy “pride” over-reacted and were trying to rile the public with their anti-China stance, but they failed because the fisherman himself changed his tune.
Another issue, another major fail for the Opposition to bring Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte down. They simply don’t get it. They keep using negative propaganda against him when the truth can quickly burn it down. They will never learn from their mistakes. They are pathetic.
It actually takes guts to issue an unpopular opinion and only someone with strong conviction can maintain civility in the midst of a diplomatic tension like the incident between Filipino fishermen and a Chinese vessel. In that regard, Duterte is the opposite of “duwag”.
The Opposition tried to make it look like it was Duterte’s fault why the fishermen had a collision with a Chinese vessel. After all the noise and commotion died down, the rational members of the public had to ask, what the heck was that about? Clearly, the media blew it all out of proportion.
At some point, the Opposition ran out of things to say and resorted to copy and pasting “Duterte duwag”. More proof that their arguments do not have legs to stand on. Now it’s all just gone up in smoke which will soon dissipate.
The story ends with a happy ending and a happy fist bump.
As usual, the media again got ahead of the right agencies authorised to do a proper investigation of the Reed Bank incident involving a Chinese vessel and a Filipino fishing boat. Not only that, they had hijacked the people and circumstances surrounding it to claim exclusive rights to what had become a perverse reality TV show.
In an astounding display of this perverse dramatisation, Lani Insigne wife of Junel, captain of the fishing boat that was allegedly rammed by a Chinese vessel at Reed Bank was somehow caught on video on the phone telling her husband not to proceed with a meeting with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. How the media came to be so ready to capture that moment attests to their predatory ways.
Instead of informing the public, Philippine news media, it seems, is bent on inflaming an already explosive situation and turn Reed Bank into an international flash point.
There are so many conflicting reports about the boat sinking incident involving Filipino fishermen and a Chinese vessel. This is why it is wise to stay calm and let the facts come in first before condemning anyone.
